Bikini top: Acacia Swimwear / Shorts: Minkpink

For a lifelong Hawaii resident, I don’t go to the beach nearly enough. Add that to my list of New Year’s resolutions! Hope you all had a wonderful Christmas (if you celebrate Christmas) and wishing you a Happy New Year.

Blouse: Equipment / Shorts: Nameless / Sunnies: Karen Walker / Clutch and Heels: F21

For what seems like years now I’ve been lusting over Equipment blouses, and I finally got my first for Christmas this year. I’m excited about it for two reasons — one, they’re pretty effortlessly chic and go with anything, and two, it nicely fulfills my New Year’s resolution of wearing more color. Read this post and more of my thoughts on Kakaako.com. Hope you all have a fabulous weekend!

    CHRISTMAS 2013

Twas a great Christmas this year, with lots of family time, amazing food, and awesome presents. Plus, I don’t have work today so I got to stay up late last night decorating my gingerbread house and watching Love Actually. A perfect Christmas. How did you celebrate this year?

Tiffany & Co. is one of the few places that still makes me feel like a kid in a candy store each time I walk through its pretty silver doors. So you can imagine how excited I was when they told me they had a Christmas present for me this year. When I went to pick it up they let me try on their new Atlas collection, a sophisticated line of necklaces, pendants, earrings, bangles and rings in a variety of metals including 18K yellow, rose or white gold and sterling silver with diamonds. I was sad when I had to take off the jewelry, but so grateful that I was gifted with a deliciously chic Atlas bar bracelet all wrapped up in their iconic Tiffany Blue Box. But don’t take my word for it, view the whole collection for yourself here. These are a few of the behind the scenes photos, and I’ll be sure to post a few more later this week. Wishing all of you a very Merry Christmas!

I guess I’m playing it a little bit fast and loose with the title “weekend photo diary” here. What I really mean is: here’s everything I ate this weekend, plus a few pictures of the beach. For our Friday night date night, Holden and I tried a new Honolulu restaurant called MW Restaurant and it was amazing. I highly recommend it if you live in the area. Hope you’re all enjoying the holidaze.

Just a couple of photos from the “Kamaaina Christmas” event I attended last Saturday. Any time I get to break out my favorite Alexander McQueen gown, I’m pretty much in heaven. Today’s technically the weekend for me since my company is having spa day tomorrow at a local hotel. Hope you all have an amazing weekend!

Budgeting — there’s a word I despise. For years I used to go to the salon to get my nails done every few weeks, but I’ve made so many trips there I’d probably faint if I added up all the money I’ve spent keeping my nails looking stylish. So about a year ago I made the decision to majorly cut down on my guilty pleasures (ombré hair, eyelash extensions and eyebrow waxing only!) and do my nails myself. Part of the strategy was to get a gel nail kit (I use the Sephora OPI kit) and buy polish only when it’s on sale. I recently picked up these Sally Hansen nail strips for about $6 and decided to give it a try. This was so easy for me, and I am the least artistic person I know…ask anyone. Start with clean, filed nails and follow the steps below.

    1. Open package and choose french nail strips that best fit each of your nails.

    2. Peel protective film from the top of first strip, and protective layer from the back of the strip.

    3. Place the sticky side of the strip on your nail, adhere the strip with the flat side of the cuticle pusher.

    4. Bend the strip over your nail and use the rough side of the file to gently remove.

    5. Add glitter to tips if desired, then repeat all steps with clear strips. I decided to just put a layer of gel top coat and put it under my LED light for 1 minute. I always find that putting a layer of gel on top makes my manicure last 3x longer.

There’s always something extra special about homemade gifts. Maybe it’s the thought that went into it, or that everyone loves food, but it can be a perfect gift for co-workers, aunts and uncles, or people who are crazy difficult to shop for (most of my Christmas list). So my sister came up with the idea to make “The Best Chocolate Chip Cookies…Ever” and package them up all nicely for our co-workers (pretty packaging goes a long way, even if you mess up the cookies). We used a recipe from Cupcakes and Cashmere and made a test batch to try before we started giving them out to friends and family. They were perfectly salty and warm and delicious, and I would’ve eaten a hundred of them if she had let me. This weekend we’re making homemade hot sauce, and I’ll be sure to put up a post about it soon.

Picking out a gift for your significant other can be tough. What’s even tougher is when that person is a female, when she’s really into fashion, or when you’ve only been dating for a certain length of time. Gifts can say whatever you want them to say, like ‘I want to spend the rest of my life with you,’ or ‘I’m madly in love with you,’ or ‘We kind of just started dating so I’m getting you the quintessential 3-month bottle of perfume, okay?” So if you’re completely stuck on what to get your girl, I bet she will love you even more if you pick something from this list. Happy gifting!
