Lately it seems like everywhere I look I see signs of fall — pumpkin spice lattes, fall makeup tutorials, light layers — but here in Hawaii our weather doesn’t ever get cold enough to bundle up. One way I love embracing the fall trends without the warm clothing is just by dressing in fall colors like this maroon skirt and heavier fabrics like this chambray shirt. I definitely plan to throw booties, light scarves and sweaters into the mix too.
This past weekend was Miss Hawaii USA orientation and I got to meet all the contestants and lots of their families too. I have to say, it was SO NICE to be on the other side and not competing this time around. Not being in competition mode means eating yummy food, having a social life, and not having to wear heels if I don’t want to — all things I am no longer willing to give up! Feel free to follow me on snapchat ’emmawo’ for behind the scenes Miss Hawaii USA 2016 video. XOXO
I know I haven’t posted much this week, it’s been a tough few days for personal reasons, but blogging is my passion and I so appreciate everyone who stops by my blog and continues to give me so much love through social media. Today I thought I would share an article I contributed to on HotelClub.com featuring ‘A Local’s Guide to Hawaii.’ Here are my personal Hawaii favorites on everything from shopping to beaches to restaurants. For a full list of picks, check out the article here.
Emma Wo is the current reigning Miss Hawaii USA who recently placed in the Top 10 at Miss USA 2015 and a former Miss Hawaii Teen USA. She is a fashion blogger and owner of TheAlohaBabe.com and has interned in the fashion closet at Vogue Magazine in New York City. A senior account executive at Bennet Group Public Relations, she represents clients in the areas of travel tourism and real estate.
1. Where can you find Hawaii’s best shopping?
I always love supporting our local boutiques and you can find tons of great things and pieces by Hawaii-based designers, too. Bamboo Sky, The Butik and Fighting Eel are a few that come to mind.
2. Where can you find the best beaches in Hawaii?
My favorite beach on Oahu is definitely Lanikai Beach. The water is crystal clear and amazing for snorkeling and kayaking. Two other favorites are Waimea Bay on the North Shore and Cromwells Beach in town — a hidden gem for locals.
3. What’s the best restaurant in Hawaii at the moment?
For fine dining, Alan Wong’s can’t be beat. They specialize in asian fusion cuisine and I highly recommend the ginger crusted onaga if you’re a fish lover like me. Other hot spots to try are The Pig & the Lady, Lucky Belly and MW Restaurant — don’t leave without trying their desserts!
4. Where can you find the best nighlife in Hawaii?
If you’re looking for great nightlife, I would recommend heading into Waikiki. The Modern Honolulu hotel has a great bar in the lobby called The Study, and a nightclub called Addiction that are popular on Thursday, Friday, and Saturday nights. Rumfire in The Sheraton Waikiki is another fun beachside bar to stop by.
5. What’s your favourite hotel/resort in Hawaii and why?
I recently stayed at The Modern Honolulu and had a fantastic time. It’s chic and perfect for it you want to stay just outside the hustle and bustle of central Waikiki.
6. Anything you would like to add?
Whenever anyone is visiting Hawaii for the first time, I always tell them to try authentic Hawaiian food. Some of the absolute best Hawaiian food can be found at Helena’s Hawaiian Food and Ono Hawaiian Foods.
Have an amazing week…XOXO

I know it’s already Tuesday, but I hope you all had an amazing weekend. I was over on Maui for the weekend attending the Miss Maui USA and Teen USA pageant, and five gorgeous girls were crowned that are now going to compete in the Miss Hawaii USA and Teen USA pageant on November 22. My favorite part about pageants is easily the crowning moment because I just love seeing the girls’ reactions and the pure joy and excitement on their faces. I flew back to Oahu late Sunday night and when I woke up the next morning I was so sick and my throat was so sore it hurt to swallow. Sorry if that’s TMI but eek…it was hard to get out of bed all day! Since I couldn’t shoot any new outfits, here’s one from a while back that I never got a chance to post. Thanks for reading <3

When I first laid my eyes on this bag, I saw that it came in nearly 10 different colors and I literally spent days mulling over which one I wanted to be mine. I finally decided on the red because I don’t have any other red bags, and I figured it would go with everything from stripes to solids. It wasn’t a shocker, either, that it’s called the “Lala Stunner” because it really is a stunner and the color is so vibrant I just love it. Check out the other colors and the whole Poupée de Papier collection here.
This weekend, I’m flying to Maui for the Miss Maui USA pageant and can’t wait. I can’t believe I have only a few months left of my reign so I’m trying to soak up every minute. I’ll be sure to post lots of photos and snaps from there, be sure to follow me on Snapchat ’emmawo’ to see what I’m up to.

Wow, I can’t believe it’s already Wednesday! I wore a really similar look to this one in Monday’s post but I never posted the details, so here goes. I was wandering around H&M last week and found some really fun, colorful skirts that I thought would be perfect for the end of summer. I loved this yummy chartreuse color and decided to keep it bold and bright with my Samudra clutch. I even thought this look would be cute paired with a black blazer but honestly it was so hot this day that the thought of putting any more clothes on was unbearable.
I got an email from a reader recently about sharing more fitness tips on my blog, so I’m planning to do just that this week. While I’m no expert, I love reading your emails and always want to be listening to readers and what you want to read so please let me know if there are any other kinds of posts you want to see on here. Have a great day!

Is there anything better than a long weekend with no plans in sight? I honestly can’t remember the last one I had where I didn’t have appearances or events and I totally milked it — sleeping in, a massage, lazy beach day, a movie with my mom, take-out Indian food for my cheat meal, and capped it off with a barbecue with friends. At the end of the barbecue we had the perfect view right over Ala Moana Beach Park where they were doing a lantern floating ceremony and it was so gorgeous seeing all of the mini candlelit boats in the ocean. You can kind of see it in the last photo but I don’t think a photo does it justice. Hope you all had a lovely long weekend.

One of my favorite trends for spring is the monochrome outfit. Monochrome dressing is as easy as it is fashionable, and chances are you already have everything you need in your closet. To keep it interesting, experiment with layers, textures, and shapes until you get it just right. I love the look of all-white monochrome and will definitely be sporting it all summer long, but today I went with pink to match my amazing new She + Lo crossbody bag. No matter what I’m wearing I love that this bag brings a pop of color to my ensemble!
I mentioned this last week but I’d really love to meet you all and talk all things fashion and handbags, so if you live in the Hawaii area, be sure to stop by the She + Lo event on June 6th from 2 – 4 p.m. at Nordstrom Ala Moana Center. The designers Sheila Nazarian and Laura Darrah will be there too and it should be a really fun event.

As most of you know, I’m right in the midst of training for Miss USA which requires lots eating healthy and working out. Miss USA will actually be my fifth pageant (I was previously Miss Hawaii Teen USA and competed at Miss Teen USA in 2008), meaning this is the fifth time I’ve had to get my body ‘pageant ready,’ meaning losing a few pounds and toning up more than anything. Trust me when I say I wish there was some magic supplement or workout class I could take to make it happen overnight, but there just isn’t a healthy way to make it happen without good, old fashioned diet and exercise. I’m no nutritionist or fitness expert by any means, but lots of friends and readers have been asking me what my favorite easy, healthy recipes and snacks are so I thought I would share a few each month, starting today.
1. Slow Cooker Teriyaki Chicken
If I’m being honest, I make this recipe two, sometimes three times per week and it’s just as amazing every time. Sometimes I’ll eat the chicken over salad for lunch or with brown rice and veggies like asparagus or steamed broccoli for dinner. You can also skip the teriyaki sauce and use this chicken in tacos, quesadillas, plain on chicken salads, or use any other sauce you wish. My favorite!
2. Overnight Oats
The key to maintaining your healthy eating plan is to always change it up so you never get bored. I love overnight oats because you can make so many variations of it by adding chocolate, sliced almonds, cinnamon, fruit, PB2, you name it. Here’s one of my all-time favorites:
3. Instapressed Juice
There is nothing like a fresh pressed juice in the morning, as a post-workout snack, or even if you need just a little pick-me-up throughout the day. I drink Instapressed because they have a wide variety of flavors (favorites are Green Aloha, Sunshine and Fruitburst) and they’re made with fresh, raw, local ingredients.
4. Quest Bar Cinnamon Roll
Ahhhhh, Cinnabon. I truly believe that Cinnabons are one of the very best treats that was ever created, but I just can’t have them right now. And that’s okay, because I discovered a way healthier version that cures my Cinnabon cravings just the same in less than 200 calories (one Cinnabon classic roll has 850+ calories). Here is the recipe I use, straight from Quest Nutrition.
Let me know if you have any questions in the comments and thanks for reading!

Last month when I went to Tokyo to model in the Girls Award fashion show, I added on an extra three days to visit my bff in Hong Kong. She’s been living there for more than two years now and I hadn’t made it over to see her, so I knew this time I needed to go. It’s funny how with great friends you can go without seeing them for months and months, but when you get together you just go right back to where you left off. She was taking me around to all the incredible Hong Kong shops like Joyce and Lane Crawford and I totally fell in love with these Valentino lace-up sandals, but I’m just not at a point right now where I can justify spending $1,400 on sandals that might go out with the season. When I spotted a pair at Zara that were a similar look, I pounced (actually, it took me at least 20 minutes to get them on in the store while my friend patiently helped me to lace them up). I plan to wear them all summer long with summer dresses and flowy skirts for an edgy take on the boho look.
Today I’m off to a barre class with my sister then I’m going to plan a fun date night for Saturday since Holden and I are both free on the same night which doesn’t happen very often lately on weekends. Any ideas?
