Wow, I can’t believe it’s already Wednesday! I wore a really similar look to this one in Monday’s post but I never posted the details, so here goes. I was wandering around H&M last week and found some really fun, colorful skirts that I thought would be perfect for the end of summer. I loved this yummy chartreuse color and decided to keep it bold and bright with my Samudra clutch. I even thought this look would be cute paired with a black blazer but honestly it was so hot this day that the thought of putting any more clothes on was unbearable.
I got an email from a reader recently about sharing more fitness tips on my blog, so I’m planning to do just that this week. While I’m no expert, I love reading your emails and always want to be listening to readers and what you want to read so please let me know if there are any other kinds of posts you want to see on here. Have a great day!

Is there anything better than a long weekend with no plans in sight? I honestly can’t remember the last one I had where I didn’t have appearances or events and I totally milked it — sleeping in, a massage, lazy beach day, a movie with my mom, take-out Indian food for my cheat meal, and capped it off with a barbecue with friends. At the end of the barbecue we had the perfect view right over Ala Moana Beach Park where they were doing a lantern floating ceremony and it was so gorgeous seeing all of the mini candlelit boats in the ocean. You can kind of see it in the last photo but I don’t think a photo does it justice. Hope you all had a lovely long weekend.

One of my favorite trends for spring is the monochrome outfit. Monochrome dressing is as easy as it is fashionable, and chances are you already have everything you need in your closet. To keep it interesting, experiment with layers, textures, and shapes until you get it just right. I love the look of all-white monochrome and will definitely be sporting it all summer long, but today I went with pink to match my amazing new She + Lo crossbody bag. No matter what I’m wearing I love that this bag brings a pop of color to my ensemble!
I mentioned this last week but I’d really love to meet you all and talk all things fashion and handbags, so if you live in the Hawaii area, be sure to stop by the She + Lo event on June 6th from 2 – 4 p.m. at Nordstrom Ala Moana Center. The designers Sheila Nazarian and Laura Darrah will be there too and it should be a really fun event.

As most of you know, I’m right in the midst of training for Miss USA which requires lots eating healthy and working out. Miss USA will actually be my fifth pageant (I was previously Miss Hawaii Teen USA and competed at Miss Teen USA in 2008), meaning this is the fifth time I’ve had to get my body ‘pageant ready,’ meaning losing a few pounds and toning up more than anything. Trust me when I say I wish there was some magic supplement or workout class I could take to make it happen overnight, but there just isn’t a healthy way to make it happen without good, old fashioned diet and exercise. I’m no nutritionist or fitness expert by any means, but lots of friends and readers have been asking me what my favorite easy, healthy recipes and snacks are so I thought I would share a few each month, starting today.
1. Slow Cooker Teriyaki Chicken
If I’m being honest, I make this recipe two, sometimes three times per week and it’s just as amazing every time. Sometimes I’ll eat the chicken over salad for lunch or with brown rice and veggies like asparagus or steamed broccoli for dinner. You can also skip the teriyaki sauce and use this chicken in tacos, quesadillas, plain on chicken salads, or use any other sauce you wish. My favorite!
2. Overnight Oats
The key to maintaining your healthy eating plan is to always change it up so you never get bored. I love overnight oats because you can make so many variations of it by adding chocolate, sliced almonds, cinnamon, fruit, PB2, you name it. Here’s one of my all-time favorites:
3. Instapressed Juice
There is nothing like a fresh pressed juice in the morning, as a post-workout snack, or even if you need just a little pick-me-up throughout the day. I drink Instapressed because they have a wide variety of flavors (favorites are Green Aloha, Sunshine and Fruitburst) and they’re made with fresh, raw, local ingredients.
4. Quest Bar Cinnamon Roll
Ahhhhh, Cinnabon. I truly believe that Cinnabons are one of the very best treats that was ever created, but I just can’t have them right now. And that’s okay, because I discovered a way healthier version that cures my Cinnabon cravings just the same in less than 200 calories (one Cinnabon classic roll has 850+ calories). Here is the recipe I use, straight from Quest Nutrition.
Let me know if you have any questions in the comments and thanks for reading!

Last month when I went to Tokyo to model in the Girls Award fashion show, I added on an extra three days to visit my bff in Hong Kong. She’s been living there for more than two years now and I hadn’t made it over to see her, so I knew this time I needed to go. It’s funny how with great friends you can go without seeing them for months and months, but when you get together you just go right back to where you left off. She was taking me around to all the incredible Hong Kong shops like Joyce and Lane Crawford and I totally fell in love with these Valentino lace-up sandals, but I’m just not at a point right now where I can justify spending $1,400 on sandals that might go out with the season. When I spotted a pair at Zara that were a similar look, I pounced (actually, it took me at least 20 minutes to get them on in the store while my friend patiently helped me to lace them up). I plan to wear them all summer long with summer dresses and flowy skirts for an edgy take on the boho look.
Today I’m off to a barre class with my sister then I’m going to plan a fun date night for Saturday since Holden and I are both free on the same night which doesn’t happen very often lately on weekends. Any ideas?
Summer is a time for glowing tan skin, salty hair, and picnics at the beach, but a makeup meltdown? No thanks. Since I live in Hawaii and have to beat the heat all year round, I thought I’d offer my five best tips for summerizing your makeup routine once the weather starts heating up:
1. Prep and Prime
In the summer heat, makeup just doesn’t last as long without getting oily and smudgy. One way I’ve found to combat this is using a face primer and also an eyelid primer to hold everything in place and prevent creasing. I have a few different primers in my rotation, but some of my go-to products are Arbonne and Smashbox for my face, and NYX for my lids in nude or white when I want my shadows to really pop.
2. Lighten Up
The only thing you should be laying on thick come summer is sunscreen. For your foundation, try going with something a bit more sheer and natural like a BB cream or tinted moisturizer. My favorite BB cream is from Etude House (I use color W24 when I’m tan and add W13 when I’m on the paler side).
3. Add a Pop of Color
Summertime calls for blush a touch brighter than your everyday cheek color. Bust out something bright like a pink or coral and dab them on the apples of your cheeks. LOVE Nars blush in Angelika.
4. Go Smudgeproof
For a fresh summer look, go with an eyeliner and mascara that are smudge- and sweat-proof. I find that gel eyeliners like Bobbi Brown long wear and my holy grail Kat Von D tattoo liner are great for this.
5. Refresh Your Skin
Whatever your skin type — dry, oily, combination — be prepared with oil blotting sheets for when the hot weather is working against you and face mist for when you need an immediate boost of hydration and radiance. My favorites are NYX blotting sheets because they’re really low-cost, and Bobbi Brown face mist. Perfect for sunny days like these …

Since my closet in my apartment is ever so tiny, I’m feel like I’m constantly having to purge to make room for new things. I recently gave away a bunch of old clothes and bags I never wear anymore, even though I hate getting rid of things because I’m so sentimental (seriously, I still have shirts that I wore in the 9th grade). On the bright side, now it’s time to fill her back up with killer spring accessories! The first thing to make the cut was this She + Lo Rise Above Mini Satchel in Orchid. I rarely see bags made in this color and that’s exactly what drew me to it.
She + Lo has a ton of everyday handbags with an edge and my favorite part (besides being gorgeous) is that they are really high quality. From appearances to events to errands, I need my bags to withstand a little wear and tear and these do the trick. If you live in the Hawaii area, be sure to stop by the She + Lo event on June 6th from 2 – 4 p.m. at Nordstrom Ala Moana. The designers Sheila Nazarian and Laura Darrah will be there and I’ll be there too. See you there!

You know when you think you have all the time in the world to get ready and you’re cleaning and getting everything done you need to, and then all of a sudden, BAM, you have to leave in less than 10 minutes? That was this day. I blow dried my hair super quickly, then tied it up in a tight top-knot while my hair was still hot so it would hold a loose curl once I arrived at dinner. When in doubt, I usually go for black and neutrals. It’s my go-to hue whenever I need to throw an outfit together quickly, so I have no intentions of stowing away my black items just because Summer is here. What’s your go-to outfit when you’re in a pinch?
Happy Aloha Friday! Just wanted to share some of the summer dresses and accessories I’ve been lusting after lately, from daytime outfits to night-on-the-town looks. This evening I’m off to watch Holden compete in a paddle tennis tournament, and tomorrow I’m doing a charity walk for Best Buddies and celebrating my cousin’s graduation from med school with a cheat meal at one of my favorite Japanese restaurants. Hope you all have an amazing weekend…
